Avalon High

Okay, this post was meant to be on The Glass Demon, because that was the book that was reccomended to me by Lydia. However.. the copy of The Glass Demon which is in the library has been out on loan for the past four weeks [!] so I'm just going to do the post on something different...
Okay. So the book is called Avalon High. I finished reading it at five past midnight last night, so its quite fresh in my mind right now. The main character is Ellie, who has just moved from Minnesota to Annapolis, to her new school, Avalon High School.
Everything seems normal at first, the jock, Lance, the cheerleader, Jennifer, the popular quaterback, Will. But then things start to get wierd. Will thinks he's met Ellie before, and Will's step brother starts to stir up the trouble.
The story is really good, I really enjoyed it!! The front cover is not exactly eyecatching, and to be honest it looks a bit babyish. But the plot is AMAZING and I want to read it again already! there was deffinately a lot of suspense, and you could sort of tell where the stroy was going, without it being to predictable. There is a huge climax near the end of the book, and it was actually quite scary!! :O
I think the book was aimed at teenagers, and maybe more at girls than boys, though it is not particularly girly, it is just told from a girls part of view.
The characters in the story were suprisingly believable. It made it sound like the teenagers being re-incarnations of the past ledgends of camelot pretty, well not normal, but, realistic.
The story is set in a pretty normal place, a highschool in America.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a realy good read, and its a brilliant mix of realistic, typical teenage dilemas, and drama that turns strangely scary. I would deffinately recommend this book to any teenage girl, and maybe any teenage boys. :) :) :)
I give this book........ 8.5 out of 10!!!!!!

Love, Aubrey x

So, my second review :)
This time I am going to be reviewing one of my absolute FAVOURITE books of all time!! Love, Aubrey. :D
I love this book for sooo many reasons.. which is a bit wierd because it isn't really my typical choice of book at all. It is pretty emotional, and quite sad! :O
The main character in the book is 11 year old Aubrey [clues in the name], and as a bit of background info, her, her Dad, her Mum, and her younger sister Savannah have all recently been involved in a car crash, in which only Aubrey and her Mum survived. - you see whay I mean by sad? :(
Anyway, the book is about how Aubrey's struggle to patch her life back together again, with the help of her Grandmother, and her bestfriend Bridget.
The characters are really realistic, as in, you can really believe them. The emotions that are portrayed in the book are believable, and you can't help but empathise with Aubrey. There are certain bits in the book that are REALLY sad, and at one part of the book I actually cried. I'm not kidding, the book is moving.
Bridget befriends Aubrey right at the beginning, as soon as Aubrey arrives from Virginia at her Grandmother's house in Vermont. Bridget is the stability in Aubrey's life, and holds her up when Aubrey breaks down.
I think my favourite character would actually be Mabel, Bridget's little sister. She hasn't got a big part in the book as such, but she is deffinately important. She is only 4, and is unaware of Aubrey's troubled background. However she is deffinately Aubrey's sunshine, and her innocence is often what Aubrey needs to get out of a sad mood. Aubrey sees her as like Savannah, and this draws her to Mabel. Aubrey can't help but notice the similarities between Savannah and Mabel. When Bridget gets frustrated with Mabel, or tells her to go away, Aubrey has endless patience for Mabel, and I think Aubrey uses Mabel to partially fill in the gap that Savannah has left behind.
Aubrey often writes to 'Jilly'. Jilly was Savannah's imaginary friend, and whilst Savannah had been alive, Aubrey had had no time to play with Jilly. She has scorned Savannah for her childishness for having an imaginary friend. After Savannah had died however, Aubrey found herself talking to Jilly, and writing her letters. I think this shows just how much Aubrey was hurting inside over the loss of her sister, and how she clinged to anything that reminded her of her.
The language in the book is fairly easy to read and understand, but you can read it whatever level reader you are.
The book is overall very emotional, and it especially explores the emotions of grief and abandonment [cheery]. The book goes on to explore the emotions Aubrey feels when she starts to let go, when she decides to move on.
As I said before, Love Aubrey is really not my typical choice of book. In fact, I only read it because it had been shortlisted for the Carnigie! I am really glad I got the chance to read it though, as I really, really enjoyed it.
I thouroughly reccomend this book to anyone who wants a change in the genre of book they usually read, just as a breath of fresh air. Maybe this would appeal to girls rather than guys though..? I'm not really sure...

Anyway, I give this book...........................................................................................................
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right. Ok.
I shall expand on my previous post mr Gibb :)
The main character, Georgia, has a group of best mates. Jas, Ellen, Rosie, Jools, and of course, the Ace Gang trainees!! She spends all her time texting, calling and meeting them (when shes not at stalag 14 [otherwise known as school], of cousre..!)
Then ther is Robbie. Georgias dream man!! But does she have a chance with him when her arch enemy Wet Lindsay is also interested?!?!
The whole series is all about Georgia, and her boy dilemas. Robbie? Dave the Laugh? Mamiso?
The characters are really realistic, its easy to believe they are real people (even though they are not). The situations they get into are really FUNNY, without being too over the top..!
I loved the storyline of the series, and by the last book, you feel that you really know Georgia. Its like you're best mates.
The book is set in present time, as in, now. I think the author wrote it so that no place names were mentioned. That way it is easier to imagine Georgia being anyone. Like the girl at the end of your street. I think this is quite clever!!
Also, the first and second books of the series has been made into a movie!! The movie is called 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' (duh) :) Georgia is played by Georgia Groome [former trent college pupil!], and Robbie is played by Aaron Johnson [!]. The movie is really good, and it is deffinately a laugh a minute! Here is the link to the official website... http://www.angusthongsmovie.com/intl/uk/ ... The trailer for the movie is on the homepage of the website too. :)
I really like this series. Its actually the only one that makes me laugh.. OUT LOUD! In a room, on my own. I would jst sit there in HYSTERICS. How sad...
Anyway, i think i will give this series a ....... [drumroll please].......
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!9.5 out of 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging [series]

So. my first review... ;) The Angus Thongs [etc] series is all about the amazingly normal yet still slightly spectacular life of typical teenager Georgia Nickles :D
She gets up to all the usual things any teenage girl would, meeting boys, shopping, stalking boys, shopping,  boy spotting, and shopping!!
I wont tell you any of the plots (there are about 10 books in the series) because it might ruin it!
Georgia has to cope with her pet half housecat half scottish wildcat Angus, her crazy little sister libby (anyone else have a toddler aged sister that steals the tampons from your wash bag and calls them 'Georgias little mice' ?? hmm? :O ) and her completely unreasonable parents..
Got your intrest..? I thought it might! ;D
